What Do the Scriptures Claim About Themselves

by Petra Church on February 06, 2020

1. The Scriptures claim to be inspired by the Holy Spirit, and not by the imaginations of mankind.

2 Timothy 3:16  //  2 Peter 1:20 //  Galatians 1:11-12

2. The prophets of the Scriptures claim to speak on behalf of God.

Deuteronomy 4:2  //  1 Samuel 15:10  //  1 Kings 16:7  //  1 Kings 21:17  //  Isaiah 38:4  //  Jeremiah 1:2

3. New Testament writers affirm that the writers of the Hebrew Scriptures wrote by the Spirit of God.

       Matthew 19:4-5  //  Mark 12:36  //  Luke 24:25  Hebrews 3:7  //  Acts 4:25  //  1 Thessalonians 2:13

4. The Scriptures claim that the Word they speak from God is eternal.

 Psalms 119:89,160  //  Isaiah 40:8  //  Matthew 24:35

5. The Scriptures claim to lead us into truth perfectly (infallibility).

Psalms 19:7-14  //  2 Samuel 22:31  //  John 10:34-35  //  Mark 12:24

6. The Mosaic law-covenant claims the highest authority to regulate Jewish life.

 Leviticus 18:1-5  //  Deuteronomy 4:2  //  Leviticus 19:2  //  Daniel 9:4-6  //  Deuteronomy 30 :15-18

7. Later prophets recognized the divine authority of the earlier prophets.

Jeremiah 7:25  //  Ezekiel 38:17  //  Zechariah 7:12  //  John 10:35

8. Jesus confirmed the authority of the "Law and the Prophets" to regulate Jewish life.

 Matthew 5:17-20  //  John 10:35  //  Mathew 23:23

9. The authors of the Hebrew Scriptures and New Testament Scriptures had every intention of writing historically accurate accounts, not mythologies or inflated traditions.

2 Peter 1:16  //  1 John 1:1-3  //  Luke 1:1-3  //  Acts 1:1-3  //  John 20:30-31
