Professional Counseling

The desire of the Counseling Ministry at Petra Church is to release the compassion and wisdom of the Father heart of God into our life circumstances. We have a variety of counselors with differing specialties which include personal, marriage and family, children, and youth.  Day and evening hours are available Monday through Friday.  Appointments can be made by calling the church office 717-354-5394 or with the emails listed with each counselor. Financial assistance is available on an individual basis.

Benjamin S. Dodd holds a Master of Arts degree in Counseling from Eastern University, St. Davids, PA. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Pennsylvania and a Nationally Certified Psychologist. He specializes in counseling teens, married couples, and those struggling with depression, anxiety, and sexual addictions. Ben has been married to Marcia for over 20 years and has two beautiful children Silas and Sophia. He is a member of the following professional associations:  The American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC), and the North American Masters in Psychology (NAMP).

Dan Keefer is a graduate of Lancaster Bible College & Graduate School with a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Counseling. Dan currently teaches in both the undergraduate Professional Counseling Program and graduate MA program at Lancaster Bible College. He specializes in counseling with men who experience depression, anxiety, trauma, compulsive behaviors, and life adjustment issues. In addition, Dan provides marriage and family counseling. Dan is married and has three young adult children. He and his family reside near York.

Wendy King is a graduate of Lancaster Bible College & Graduate School with a Bachelor of Science in Bible, and a Masters of Arts in Marriage and Family Counseling. She specializes in working with women from pre-teen to adults on anxiety, depression, identity issues, sexual brokenness, and marital hardships. Wendy and her husband, Phil, currently reside in the Denver, PA area.  They enjoy hiking, cheering for the Eagles, and spending time with friends and family.  They are expecting their first child in February of 2018.

Jean Snyder has a Masters of Arts in Community Counseling from Regent University. She is a National Certified Counselor as well as a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Pennsylvania. Jean primarily counsels older women in the areas of anxiety, depression, boundaries and balancing of life issues. In addition, she assists parents in building communication skills with their children.  Jean is passionate about group work and considers a marital counseling session to be a miniature group. Her greatest delight is to encourage spiritual growth in her clients. Jean lives with her husband Jay of 37 years in the Akron area. They have four adult children and four grandchildren.

Betty Metzler is a graduate of James Madison University with a Master of Arts in Counseling. Through the years she has worked with children, couples, and women. Currently she is working part time and mainly counseling with women. She and her husband are Restoring the Foundations ministers. They have three married children and two grandsons. They reside at Calvary Homes in Lancaster.

She specializes in helping women from pre-teen to adults with depression, anxiety, identity issues, and life adjustments, and in addition women who are experiencing marital struggles. Grace is passionate about coming alongside clients, supporting them, seeing them grow, and has a heart for them to know who they are in Christ. She desires to provide professional, clinical services from a faith-based perspective. Grace resides in the Bowmansville area with her husband, Darrick.

Daniel also specializes in helping young couples and bringing families together through positive and nurturing relationships. Daniel is passionate about seeing children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families thrive in every season of life. Daniel desires to come alongside and support people in any and every situation by providing professional, clinical counseling services from a faith-based perspective.
